First Assembly, Calgary, Alberta

The expansion needs of the church was to expand their auditorium seating capacity, increase their lobby and administration areas and add a large gymnasium with Christian Education rooms below. The difficulty in achieving this expansion was due to the fact that the existing sanctuary design was circular and was constructed using a concrete structure that could not be easily or economically altered. The solution was to expand the space outward, leaving the structure in place and surround this new space with a wrap around glass clad lobby that was clearly visible to the nearby street. The resulting transparent facade opened the previously opaque church to the community creating a dramatic, open and inviting facility. Designed by David Parker with Woods Parker Architects.
