I am planning a Church kitchen renovation and expansion. What experience do you have in this area, particularly when there is a daycare centre using the kitchen facilities? Please reply with some samples of similar projects. We will want to talk in more detail. Our location is Mississauga, Ontario.

Hi Richard, Most of our churches have kitchens and some have daycare facilities but were not designed specifically for use by a daycare centre. The main issue is that the regulations now require commercial cooking equipment which will require an exhaust hood and fire suppression system. In addition a separate make-up air unit and separate hot water heater for a commercial dishwasher(depending on the model) may be required as well as a grease trap for all drains. We designed the Wesley Christian Academy in Markham ( which includes a daycare facility which uses the academy’s cafeteria kitchen for food preparation. To my knowledge the regulations for food prep for a daycare are no different than what would be provided within an approved commercial kitchen.

Thanks for your question. If you feel we can be of any assistance we would be happy to meet with you to discuss your project.

      David Parker
